Sweden-based software developer finds the missing pieces of life’s puzzle in Falun Dafa

In the jigsaw puzzle called life, there is always that one critical piece that makes the whole picture complete—and only the lucky ones get to lock the precious chip in time. An Indian-origin young software developer, who’s currently based in Sweden, found that missing piece of his existence in the spiritual practice of Falun Dafa. The meditative system not only ended the quest to his unanswered questions but also completed his life’s eternal picture.

Meet Hemant Gondane, who hails from Amravati district in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. In an interview with NTD India, this software professional opened his heart and shared about his life in detail.

From an early age, Hemant was a sincere child who usually managed to score the first rank in class with his excellent performance. As a child, he was best known for his curiosity to solve technical problems.

“I was lovingly called a ‘question bank’ by my sister as I used to ask a lot of questions. Even later in my life, in some of my other social circles, I was, at times, known for asking too many questions,” said Hemant.

“I was interested to know about all the functions on any electronic device at home, whether it was a TV remote control, fan, or cooler,” Hemant recalled. “I would press all the buttons and see what it does. I liked understanding and doing technical stuff.”

After completing his graduation in computer science and engineering from Pune Institute of Computer Technology, he landed his first job in Amdocs, a leading software and service provider company.

Hemant shared that soon after his graduation his heart began seeking the true meaning of life. “I used to think whether completing an education, obtaining a good job, getting married, raising children well and then dying one day is all there is to a human life?” he said.

Even after securing a top notch career for himself, a never-ending quest kept Hemant searching for answers to his life questions. In 2011, with the turn of events, he was introduced to Falun Dafa.

“During my notice period at Amdocs, my former manager sent a mail to all employees stating he was going to conduct a workshop on a practice of mind and body. I was interested and that is when I got to know about Falun Dafa for the first time.”

During the workshop, Hemant was introduced to Zhuan Falun—the main book of Falun Dafa [1] practice.

“After reading Zhuan Falun, I understood that what is good and bad is to be judged by ‘Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance,’ and that the universe is indeed guided by these righteous principles. I was no longer muddle-headed and knew how to conduct myself,” he said.

In 2014, Hemant moved to Sweden to work for a client as a software consultant, but his contract ended in early 2015.

“After my contract got over in Sweden, I resigned from my Indian company. I stayed in Sweden for three months and couldn’t focus on finding a new job. I was intensely searching for the meaning of life instead, and it became the only priority in my life.”

He added, “After going through a range of things, I finally came to understand that this practice was the way for me.”

Inspired by the guiding principles of the practice, namely Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance, Hemant said, “These values stand out to me everywhere. Indeed, they are the universal principles.”

“As a professional, I try to do my job well, think from others point of view, care about my co-workers and employer. I believe in delivering real value to the customer,” he said. “My work is one of the major parts of my life where I serve and create value for others.”

Hemant added that the benefits of Falun Dafa practice didn’t just stop at that, as his health also improved, and he is now “able to handle all situations in life with calm and ease rather than getting upset over small trivialities.”

He shared that Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, was first introduced in China in 1992. The ancient meditation system gained popularity world over due to its immense health benefits. Between 1992 to 1997, more than 70 million people were doing Falun Dafa’s meditative exercises in China alone. However, regardless of the fact how the practice helped people reclaim their health, the former leader of the Chinese communist regime, Jiang Zemin, announced an illegal, nationwide campaign of persecution against this peaceful practice on July 20, 1999. Countless, innocent practitioners have been brutally killed in China in the past 19 years.

When Hemant first heard about the persecution, he said: “I thought there must be something wrong with this practice. Otherwise, why would the whole government be against it? I was very skeptical, thus I did my own research and read the teachings myself and got to understand the truth of the situation.”

After understanding the brutal reality of the irrational persecution that Falun Dafa faces in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Hemant felt the need to let more people know about this injustice.

“I started to take part in various health expos, and the Swedish political event known as Almedalsveckan. I also conduct meetups for local people and let them know about the peacefulness of the practice.”

While being asked how he manages in the competitive western world, Hemant had the perfect, yet practical, response.

“I value strong work ethics and try not to have a competitive mentality, thus it helps me be a better team player—for me this is putting Falun Dafa’s principles into practice and cooperating better,” he said. “We may have differing opinions in the team at times, but I do not let it affect my work by being attached to my opinions in tasks related to the project.”

Hemant said, being a professional in the demanding technical world, he tries his best to “configure the program of life with the universal principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.”

“Life is full of opportunities to incorporate the principles of ‘Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.’ I do not see any part of life where it is not needed. Whether it is a job, personal life or any social circumstance, and to that matter even being in solitude, I can incorporate Falun Dafa’s guiding principles everywhere,” Hemant concluded.

Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) is a self-improvement meditation system based on the universal principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. It was introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992 in China. Although it’s currently practiced by over 100 million people in 114 countries, this peaceful meditation system has been subject to brutal persecution in China since 1999.
