Shahenshah of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan is all set to receive an honorary Doctorate of Literature. The Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) in Kolkata has decided to give Big B this honour. The decision was taken by the executive council of the state-run university.
From the Rabindra Bharati University, a proposal has been sent to the West Bengal governor, Keshari Nath Tripathi who is also the chancellor of the University. The plan is to award Big-B the degree during the university’s 43rd annual convocation on May 8, 2018.
Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, author Nabanita Dev Sen, Painter Jatin Das and classical vocalist Pandit Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay will also be given the award. Bachchan, however, has had a long connection with the city of Kolkata starting with his first job as an executive in a firm called Bird & Co. in the 1960’s.
The University was established by the government in 1962 and named after Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, marking the birth centenary of the Nobel laureate. Prior to Amitabh Bachchan, actor-director Amol Palekar was also awarded the same honour during last year’s convocation.
