A mother’s love is the essential fuel that enables an average human to do extraordinary things. It can help a child conquer his or her fear, swim the deepest ocean,  and achieve impossible feats in life. For Dr Rekha, her mother’s support made her a respected cancer researcher. This truly inspiring story of her tells us how a girl living in a Mumbai chawl became a cancer scientist.

Dr Rekha relocated to Mumbai with her family of seven when she was young. The entire family used to live in a cramped one-room flat. As her mother never got the opportunity to pursue her education, she wanted her kids to have a great education. According to a post on Facebook by Humans of Bombay, Dr Rekha said, “My mother taught us two rules: One, family comes first and two, if we put good out in the world, it’ll come back to us in some way.”

Even though every day was a struggle, Dr Rekha’s mother motivated her daughter to be her best, and achieve new heights. “My mother has been my backbone. In college, I came down with Typhoid during my last year. My doctor told me to rest and miss my final exams. I still went and ended up failing! I was crying continuously when my mother asked, ‘Did you try your best?’ I said yes. ‘That’s all you need to do’,” said Dr Rekha.

Here’s the entire post about the inspiring mother who helped her daughter become a respected scientist!
