Major General Vikram Dogra created history after he became the first Indian Army officer to complete the Ironman Triathlon event held in Austria on Sunday. Considered to be one of the toughest one-day sporting events in the world, the Ironman is an international triathlon consisting of three consecutive events which have to be completed in a single day without a break.
Ironman Austria was held in the scenic town of Klagenfurt and nearly 3000 athletes participated in the event. Competitors are required to complete all three events—3.8 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling, and 42.2 km marathon in sequence in a time limit of only 17 hours. Major Gen. Dogra completed the event in 14 hours and 21 minutes.
According to a report from TOI, Army spokesperson Col. Aman Anand has been quoted as saying, “He is the only serving army officer from the Indian Army to have done a full Ironman and the only General across the globe to have done so.” The official twitter handle of the Indian Army shared the news and applauded the Major on his feat.
