On June 19, 2018, Kochi metro is giving free rides to its commuters. There will be week-long events at the metro station.
A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, MD of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), told The Hindu, “As part of the anniversary celebrations, he announced a waiver of ₹150 on the issuance fee and the ₹75 annual fee for commuters who purchase Kochi-1 pre-paid smart card from June 15 to June 30. The week-long celebrations to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioning the metro on June 17, 2017, will start with the cutting of a huge cake at the Edappally metro station on Sunday.”
There will be many cultural events taking place in Edappally station – a magic show by magician Gopinath Muthukad, the show’s title is “Time Traveller – Magic Metro”. There will also be a lucky draw for commuters travelling in the metro between the dates June 15 and June 18. Cultural activities have also been planned at Edappally, Aluva and Maharaja’s College Ground stations reported The Hindu.
The 500 KMRL employees will each plant trees and will look after that tree as their responsibility. They also have plans to do organic farming in vacant areas of the station. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will release Kochi Metro 365, a first-of-its-kind coffee-table book comprising photographs and other details of the metro’s influence in Kochi and its people, during the past 365 days reported The Hindu.
