To promote high professional standards of Investigation of Crime in the State/UT Police and Central Investigating Agencies in the country, Government of India has approved a proposal to institute “Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Investigation”.

According to a release by the Ministry of Home Affairs, based on the average crime data for the last three years, a total of 162 medals will be awarded every year; of these, 137 will be for the States/UTs and 25 for the Central Investigating Agencies, — National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB).

The names of awardees will be declared on 15th August every year. A certificate signed by Union Home Minister along with a medal will be awarded to each winner and their names shall be published in the Gazette of India.
