Bull’s eye specialist shooter the young and sensational Manu Bhaker has added yet another achievement under her belt. On Monday, she was named as the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games to be held at Buenos Aires from Oct.16-18.
The President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced her nomination to be the flag bearer. Manu Bhaker will lead the Indian team in the opening ceremony. According to Times Now News she told PTI, “It is a great honour for me. I never expected to be the flag-bearer for the Indian contingent.”
A team of 68 members that includes 46 athletes departed to Argentina yesterday to compete in 13 different sports at the event. Gurudutta D Bhakta the Goa Olympic Association Secretary is chosen as the Chef-de-Mission of the contingent. He said, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce the young athletes’ participation in the Youth Olympic Games. May the Indian flag fly high and our athletes bring laurels for the country.”
According to the same report by Times Now, this will be India’s largest ever participation in the Youth Olympics. Hockey has the most number of people participating with 18 member squad. While track and field have a total of seven athletes. The rest include, shooting (4), recurve archery (2), badminton (2), swimming (2), table tennis (2), weightlifting (2), wrestling (2), rowing (2), boxing (1), judo (1), sport climbing (1).
